• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Howard Anderson -- Engaging information with wonderful characters narrating : Chicken Frank Dinosaur is such a fun STEAM read! As an educator, I'm always looking for narrative non-fiction that presents science in a way kids can gravitate to, so I purchased this book. Once it arrived, my sons stole it and didn't give it back to me for three days. They took turns reading and enjoying it over and over. IT was easy enough that my 6-year-old grasped the concepts, but had enough science wrapped up in fun narrative, it kept my 10 and 12-year-olds engaged as well. Great, comic-book style layout kept the pacing fast. Lots of excellent illustrations made the kids want to keep reading. Interesting, engaging, and well-presented back matter is a huge plus. I recommend this for educators and parents who want to introduce evolutionary traits and DNA in a fun way. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2021 )
• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kristy Roser Nuttall -- Hilarious and Attention Grabbing!!! : I really like how this book is a graphic novel style picture book that is very accessible to kids of all ages. The conversation that carries the story forward is super clever and engaging, and the illustrations pop off the page with a vivid spunk that draws you into the story. The part where Frank writes a postcard to his alligator cousin Ike is such a fun moment, but the book gets even better when Ike shows up for a visit and you're on your toes not knowing what to expect. I think this is a gem of a book with great STEM elements and read aloud potential--doing all of the different animal voices would be a fantastic way to involve kids in the story. Ensslin's comic book-style illustrations are a perfect match for Wenger's humorous and informational text about the connection between birds and dinosaurs. Readers will be entertained with Frank and his lovable crew as he journey's to teach them about the evolution of different species. I never knew that chickens and dinosaurs were related! It can be hard to find stories that spark a nice balance between fact and fiction while remaining engaging for kids (and adults) but Chicken Frank, Dinosaur has done just that!! With it's expanded back matter, it would also make for a perfect companion to school curriculums and libraries. I highly recommend this clever and curious read for all!
